Professor Jens Lehmann is Lead Scientist at the Fraunhofer Institute for Intelligent Analysis and Information Systems IAIS. He develops analytical methods for research and industry within the Enterprise Information Systems department which intelligently processes large and heterogeneous digital data pools using Big Data Analytics. At the IAIS he focuses primarily on Machine Learning, Question and Answering and Geospatial Data Engineering. He is also Professor of »Data Engineering« at the Institute of Computer Science at the University of Bonn.
Professor Lehmann specializes in combining flexible structuring with the integration of heterogeneous data pools using intelligent methods of analysis based on these structures. The benefit of this approach is that it generates more precise and more easily comprehensible analytical results. These processes are applied in areas such as the automotive industry, mechanical engineering, telecommunications and medicine – for example to improve medical patient care with the aim of offering prevention, diagnosis and therapy tailored to individual needs.
Professor Lehmann studied Computer Science at the Technical University of Dresden and the University of Bristol (England). In 2010 he went on to gain his doctorate at the University of Leipzig. Before he was invited to join the team at Bonn Professor Lehmann had been leading his own research group in the city since 2010. From 2013 until 2015 he was in charge of the »Agile Knowledge Engineering and Semantic Web« (AKSW) research center at the University of Leipzig and was also project coordinator for the EU project GeoKnow. From 2011 to 2012 he was Research Visitor at Oxford University. He has published more than 70 papers in international journals which have been quoted in excess of 7,000 times.
